A: Hi there! Congratulations on starting your rhinestone business :). To create this wrap for the tumbler, you will need the following items:
A plotter/vinyl cutter (Cameo or Cricut are good beginner machines. We prefer Cameo due to their software.)
Magic Flock template material
Glitter htv
HTV Anything decal material
ss10 Hotfix Rhinestones. This particular design requires just under 20 gross of rhinestones or 2 packs of the rhinestones we offer.
Korean Low Lead hotfix rhinestones are pretty and a nice, economical rhinestone.
Diamond-Cut hotfix rhinestones are our Premium, machine-cut rhinestones. Their sparkle is breathtaking and they are priced accordingly. If you use Diamond Cut for any project, that project should be priced higher for your end-user.
A Rhinestone Brush - Shurline paint paddles can be found at most Lowe's stores or Walmart.
Acrylic Hotfix Tape to lift your rhinestone design and align to your glitter htv which you will have already pressed to HTV Anything.
Protective cover sheet for pressing glitter htv to your HTV Anything Decal material, followed by hotfix rhinestones to your HTV Anything decal material.
Ideally, a heat press.
Here are some quick instructions on using these materials in your new business. You do need a plotter which is also referred to as a vinyl cutter.
Cricut and Cameo are good craft cutters. They each come with their own software. IMO the Cricut Software leaves a lot to be desired. Either cutter would be great to start a business with.
In the Deluxe and Business Edition upgraded software for Silhouette Cameo, you can design your own rhinestone designs. You can use Silhouette's Business Edition to create rhinestone designs and export your work as svg to upload to Cricut's Design Space and cut with your Cricut. You also can buy rhinestone designs, like the TRW Maars/Strata designs. Use the software to send the design to the cutter.
When we first designed the tumbler and can cooler wraps, we had measured the glitter htv and created the templates for you to use. As we've practiced making the wraps, we have found it easier to press a larger piece of glitter htv to the HTV Anything without cutting out the template shape. This seems bizarre at first, but then when it comes time to align the rhinestone portion, it is much easier to align the rhinestones on a larger piece of glitter htv and after pressing the rhinestones, use the stones as a guide to trim the glitter and HTV Anything to size using scissors.
If you prefer to cut the glitter template shape ahead of time, we have those instructions here to help guide you. To cut your glitter htv, place it face down on your cutting mat. You normally mirror (flip) your design to cut in reverse as the heat-activated adhesive is on the back of the htv, This particular design is already mirrored so you do not need to do this. After you cut your glitter htv, you will press it to the SHINY side of your HTV Anything decal material. Trim the carrier close to the glitter htv and don't let the sticky carrier touch the edges of your HTV Anything as it can peel up and mess up your design. Cover the glitter HTV and the HTV Anything with your protective cover sheet. Press at 310 degrees F for 8-10 seconds. Open your heat-press, remove the protective cover sheet and peel the glitter htv carrier sheet.
You cut the rhinestone portion of the design in Magic Flock template material. The fuzzy texture helps when you’re brushing rhinestones into the design. Your holes for ss10 rhinestones need to be .135" so the stones fit properly in your template. If you are using a cutting mat, peel the paper backing off of the Magic Flock and stick the template material directly to your mat. The sticky mat will help weed out the dots after you're finished cutting the template. If you are not using a mat, leave the protective paper backing on the Magic Flock. After you cut the design into the Magic Flock, you’ll peel off the paper backing and if your cut settings are correct, there will be lots of little blue dots left behind and your flock will have the design cut out of it. If you have any dots that have not weeded out perfectly, simply put your template sticky side down on a table and press across it firmly with your hands or a squeegee. Then, peel from one corner and the dots will stay behind. Repeat as necessary to remove all of the dots from your rhinestone template.
Now, you are ready to start brushing in your hotfix rhinestones! Place the flock on a smooth hard surface (you can use a large chalkboard that you can carry around or a large table) pour a good-sized pile of the rhinestones onto the template and brush them in with the paint paddle. Using more rhinestones than you'll need for the design helps with brushing them in. Use small round strokes to get the holes filled in. If you see any rhinestones that are flipped over, just brush a small pile of stones over the upside-down rhinestones and repeat with brushing in small circles. The shape of the rhinestones, the fibers of the Magic Flock Template material, and the fuzzy fibers of the rhinestone brush all work together to flip the rhinestones right side up. When the template is filled, brush in straight lines to get the excess stones off.
Use heat-resistant Acrylic Rhinestone Hotfix tape to lift the design and now you've made a Rhinestone Transfer. It is ready to press to your glitter htv, which you've already pressed to your HTV Anything decal material.
Ss10 hotfix rhinestones typically press at 325 degrees F for 15 seconds. When making these full rhinestone wraps, you can press at a slightly lower temperature, as these will not go through the laundry as a rhinestone shirt would. After aligning the rhinestone transfer to your glitter htv, again cover with a protective cover sheet and press at 310-315 degrees F for 10-12 seconds. Open your heat-press, flip the entire wrap over, cover again with the protective cover sheet, and press for an additional 5-8 seconds. We call this the 'insurance press', as you need to get that heat to the back of the hotfix rhinestones to activate the adhesive and be sure the rhinestones have properly adhered.
A quality heat press is the most important part of your business. You need to have consistent pressure and even heat. We highly recommend getting an Infrared thermometer to accurately read the temperature coming off of your heated platen. This useful tool is not sold by The Rhinestone World, but we use them every day and have them linked under Products we Love from Amazon.
To apply your wrap to the tumbler, peel off the protective backing from the HTV Anything decal you've just created to expose the adhesive. Trim the center portion out and replace the backing to the 2 side edges. This prevents the entire rhinestone and glitter wrap from sticking at once and gives you the ability to make small adjustments when aligning to your tumbler or can cooler. Once you have the wrap aligned, remove the protective backing from the 2 edges and finish wrapping your tumbler. Press with your thumbs to create a tight seal. Let the wrap cure for 24 hours before washing, to ensure the wrap has well adhered to the tumbler. For extra security, we often apply a thin bead of Supertite Adhesives Fusion Tack under the seam before sealing.
