A: Yes, our Magic Flock template material can be cut using a Cricut. We recommend doing test cuts as the life of your blade and specific machine can impact your cuts. We have had the most success peeling the Magic Flock off the backing and placing directly to the cutting mat, then using the Bonded Fabric or Cardstock+ setting (again, depends on the life of your blade). We also recommend using our Roland|GCC|Cricut Cutter Blades, as they are higher quality than the Cricut blades. We use the 45 degree blade for our Magic Flock.

A: It's nearly impossible to create a rhinestone design using Cricut's software. However, we have thousands of rhinestone designs and rhinestone fonts that you can cut with your Cricut.

The most important part of a rhinestone design is making certain that the holes in your template are properly sized for a rhinestone to fit in as well as spaced from the other rhinestones far enough so that you do not rip your Magic Flock template material. We have videos showing how to size an uploaded rhinestone design in Design Space using the Contour button.

When cutting a template with a Cricut, we recommend creating a Custom Cut Setting of 350 pressure, single cut, fine point blade.

Magic Flock 12"x15' Foot Roll - Bonus Bundle

A: The Magic Flock template material is used to cut rhinestone designs into and then you brush your rhinestones into the template. If you are using not-hotfix rhinestones, you'd need to apply an adhesive either to the backs of the rhinestones or to the surface that you are applying your design to. I have used Magic Flock template material to brush in flatback or non-hotfix rhinestones, then lift with the same Acrylic hotfix tape, flip the design over and quickly dab a dot of Supertite Adhesive Fusion Tack glue to the back of each rhinestone and then push/hold the design up to a glass window. Leave the Acrylic Hotfix tape ON while the adhesive cures. We left it on overnight and the adhesive looked like it was making the hotfix tape foggy--that's ok! It's the moisture coming out.

It does take a considerably longer time to decorate apparel (or in our case, a glass window) this way, but it did work for us.

Hotfix rhinestones are still going to give you the best adhesion on apparel, but some items cannot handle the heat from a heat press, so applying not-hotfix would be the best bet for those delicate items.

Blade age / wear also comes into play, so there's no one setting fits all answer but we can get you close. The video shows how to find the best / easiest cuts also, by sticking the flock directly to the cutting mat without the backing. If you do this then you'll need to change your settings a bit again even though all that changed was the backing was removed. It changes the height of the material, but the video is wonderful at explaining and showing you all of the things that can happen and how to adjust your machine to get perfect cuts.

Yes, you definitely CAN cut our Magic Flock template material with your Cricut. We create a custom cut setting of 350 pressure and single cut for our Cricuts, using the fine point blade.

We also recommend peeling the paper backing off the back of the Magic Flock and sticking the template material directly to your sticky cutting mat, which will help weed out the dots from the template. The dots squeegee off of your mat easily after you remove your template.

With the Cricut machines, we've found peeling the paper backing off the Magic Flock, then placing the flock directly to the sticky cutting mat helps quite a bit. Then, we like to use the TRW Clean Cut blades on our website (search Blade and find the ones marked for Cricut). These are sharper and stronger than the Cricut branded blades.

We've had success using either the 45 degree or 60 degree blades from this Clean Cut line. Try a pressure of 340 single pass. Do test cuts. If that's not giving you a perfect weed, try bumping the pressure to 350 and do another test cut. Again, if you are not getting a perfect weed, try a double cut. Yes, this increases the cut time, but having a perfect weed is so satisfying!

Another tip: If you peel from one corner and it's not weeding out most of the dots, squeegee back down and try pulling from a different corner. Depending on where your machine starts and stops the cuts of the dots will depend on which corner will give you the best weed results.

After peeling the Magic Flock from the sticky mat, you can squeegee the dots off into the trash.

If any dots remain inside your template, squeegee the template to a clean table or cookie sheet. Peel from a corner and several dots will stay behind. Repeat as necessary.

We store the templates on the textured white plastic backing from the Acrylic hotfix tape and store the templates in Page Protectors in a 3 ring binder. Remember, these templates are reusable hundreds of times if you take care of them and do not leave them stuck to your work surface.

A: I'm sorry, no, we do not recommend lasering any of our materials.
However, our materials can easily be cut with any vinyl cutter.

After you brush your hotfix rhinestones into your template, you need to pick up your design with Acrylic Hotfix Tape, (sold separately). The Acrylic Hotfix tape is specially designed to withstand the heat of your heat press and can be reused until you cannot lift your rhinestones easily with it. Always store the used Acrylic hotfix tape on the white, textured plastic protective sheet it comes with. You can also store your cut rhinestone templates on the opposite side of the white, plastic protective sheet.

All vinyl cutters will have their own calibration and the life of your cutting mat and blade all affect the quality of your cut.

What we've learned works best on the Cricut is to peel the paper backing off of the Magic Flock and stick the Flock directly to the cutting mat. The sticky mat will help weed out the dots.

Then, we set a custom setting of 350 pressure, Fine Point Blade, Single Cut. When prompted by Design Space, choose "More" for pressure.

Do test cuts to be sure the settings are working for your Cricut. Some machines will need you to either do a double cut or pause the cutting in the middle of a template, pull our your blade holder and clean any debris from the blade and holder, then replace the blade holder and continue your cut.

When you peel up the Magic Flock from the mat, start at one corner and begin peeling. If you don't see most of the dots staying behind, squeegee the Magic Flock back down to the mat and try peeling from a different corner. The start/stop point of your blade cutting the circles is the spot where we're wanting to pull against.

After you peel up your template, if you still have dots that haven't been weeded out, you can squeegee the template to your table and peel up. Many of the dots will stay behind and you can use your squeegee to scrape them into the trash. Repeat this step as necessary.

We've also put them on the coreplast, but the rhinestones do sometimes slip into the corrugated areas of the board. The nice thing about storing the templates on surfaces like the cutting board or coreplast is that you do not need to keep peeling the template off a workstation after using it, which can help prolong the integrity of the template and circles.

We do not use a 90 degree blade, we use the 45 Degree TRW Clean Cut blade.

With the newer Magic Flock, we bump up the force a bit and slow down the speed a bit, and do test cuts.

A: Our regular color for Magic Flock is blue. Sometimes, we'll have it produced in pink, to celebrate various holidays or seasons, like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Spring. The next batch of Magic Flock will be blue.

We've gotten this question a lot, lately. The adhesive on the back of the Magic Flock changed industry wide last autumn. That's the only difference in the flock material. The Rhinestone World worked diligently with our manufacturer to keep the adhesive as close to the original as possible, but the new adhesive is stronger than the old. We've found that bumping up our force and slowing the cut helps get a cleaner weed with the new Magic Flock.

Also, we like to squeegee the template to our desktop and peel up from a corner, if any dots did not weed out. This not only pulls out the excess dots, it 'calms down' the adhesive, so that it's not as sticky and won't hold onto your rhinestones.

A: The roll of Magic Flock measures 12" wide, by 15 feet long.
If you were to cut your templates with zero space between one template to the next and they are all 12x12, you would be able to get 15 templates of that size from the roll.

12" x 12" is really quite large for a rhinestone design. Once you start making rhinestone shirts, you'll see that sometimes, you will want to cut some smaller designs and can fit those in the margins of other designs that aren't a full 12" wide.

These templates are re-useable, as long as you take care of them. Be sure you don't leave them stuck to your desktop for a prolonged period of time. We like to place a freshly cut template on inexpensive cutting mats from Amazon. They're linked in our Amazon Products we Love.
