Heat Pressing is the process of using a heat press machine to attach Heat Transfer Vinyl to a fabric surface. Fabrics and textiles are porous surfaces so high heat is used to melt the adhesive on the back of the HTV into the garment. For fabrics, the heat press temperatures typically range from 250-325 degrees Fahrenheit or 121-163 degrees Celsius, depending on the Heat Transfer Vinyl sheet being used. Different textiles and varieties of HTV may require lower or higher temperatures and/ or longer press times. When heat pressed with the correct pressure and temperature the adhesive backing on the heat transfer vinyl forms a strong bond to the fabric being pressed. A standard household iron can be used to press HTV to fabrics, however it is less precise and more difficult due to uneven heating and less temperature control.
