A:
Happy to help! To start, this course specifically covers designing within CorelDraw and the TRW Design Wizard 5.0 software. If you'd like to create designs in this software, you would need both CorelDraw (NOT student version) and the TRW Design Wizard.
Another option to start with is to Purchase rhinestone designs. Then you upload the design to your design software (whatever your specific cutter uses.) Depending on the software, you may need to resize the design so that the holes in your template fit the rhinestones you'll be using. As for materials, we do have several rhinestone kits that include all of the basics.
The basic materials include:
Magic Flock template material. This is a fuzzy faced, sticky backed material we created to cut a rhinestone design into and not let the rhinestones slip under the template. You'll cut your holes to specific sizes for the rhinestones you're using. We like .097-.1" for ss06 rhinestones and .135" for ss10 rhinestones.
You'll need at least a few gross of hotfix rhinestones. Rhinestones are sold by the gross. A gross is a unit of measure, meaning 144 of any one item. You'll likely need more rhinestones than you anticipate to start off with. The rhinestone cost also goes down per stone the more gross you purchase.
SS10 is the most commonly used size stone for designs and Crystal is the most versatile color for rhinestones.
You will need Acrylic Hotfix tape to lift your rhinestone design and bring it to your apparel. This tape is specially formulated to be heat resistant to at least 335 degrees F.
You will need a Rhinestone brush. These are the paint paddles with the white fuzzy hairs--you can pick them up at Lowes or Walmart, but if you can't find them locally, we do carry them on our site.
To make Rhinestone Decals, you'll need our Bling Anything decal material. This material allows you to press rhinestones directly to it to make decals. You peel the backing off and your rhinestone decal can be applied to any smooth, non-porous surface.
