A: Technically, you wouldn't necessarily NEED to buy a Cameo to do rhinestone templates. A Cricut can cut our Magic Flock template material. The issue you will run into with Cricut is their Design Space software often has issues bringing in larger files, such as rhinestone designs. We have started creating our rhinestone designs with an included "CRAFTERS FILE", which does upload a bit easier to Design Space. Between the two brands, Silhouette Cameo and Cricut, we do prefer the Cameo in large part due to the software. If you choose to order a Cameo, the upgraded versions of the software (Deluxe and Business edition) will allow you to create your own rhinestone designs. If you would prefer to use the standard Silhouette Studios software, you can easily upload rhinestone files you order. Rhinestone designs you'll easily be able to download from TRW or other sellers, including Etsy, will be in an .svg file. Simply upload the design the same as other svg files. You will want to double check the stone sizes once uploaded, as you want to be sure those holes in the template are the proper size so you can easily brush in your rhinestones. We use the following sizes (in inches) for the following popular hotfix rhinestones: ss06 .097", ss10 .135"
All software will have a learning curve. Once you try rhinestones and brushing in your hotfix rhinestones, you'll see it is easy once you get the hang of making the tiny, gentle circles with your rhinestone brush. Plus, you always have The Rhinestone World as a source of education and support. :)
